Humboldt wins State Tournament!

Adapted soccer: Humboldt wins first PI Division state title since 2002

Humboldt won its first adapted soccer PI Division state championship since 2002 on Saturday, topping defending champ Dakota United 5-4 in the state final at Stillwater Area High School.

Senior forward Moustaphe Mouhoumed netted the game-winner for the Hawks, while sophomore Isai Mazariego Fernandez scored the team’s four other goals.

The Hawks, coached by Mary Bohland, won their three state tournament games by a combined score of 21-9. The St. Paul school topped Rochester 8-2 in the state semifinals earlier Saturday.

Humboldt (14-1) had three players named to the all-tournament team: Isai Mazariego Fernandez, Moustaphe Mouhoumed and Liban Farah.

Samuel Gerten, Blake Jackson and Giovanna Ayers made the all-tournament team for Dakota United (10-5), a co-op made up of players from Apple Valley, Eagan, Eastview, South St. Paul, Henry Sibley, Hastings, Simley and Rosemount. Gerten scored two goals in the title game.
